Legacy Project: Frontier Park Maibaum Project

$100.00$250.00

Nearly 40 years ago, Joe Daues the founder of the Saint Charles Sister Cities organization, dreamed of bringing a Maibaum Pole to Saint Charles. That vision is now becoming reality thanks to the Saint Charles Oktoberfest Board of Directors, working closely with Craftsmen Industries and the Saint Charles Parks and Recreation Department on design, engineering, and construction.

What is a Maibaum?

A Maibaum Pole is a centuries-old tradition in German towns and villages. Typically decorated with emblems representing local trades, guilds, and cultural symbols, the pole serves as a gathering point for community pride and seasonal festivals.

The Maibaum in Frontier Park

In Saint Charles, the Maibaum will join the many landmarks in Frontier Park as a lasting tribute to our city’s cultural heritage. It will do more than celebrate tradition, as it will tell the story of Saint Charles itself.

Working with the Saint Charles County Historical Society, the pole will feature decorative plaques highlighting key chapters of our history. Each plaque will have the ability to give residents and visitors access to expanded digital storytelling for an interactive experience.

A Legacy for Generations

The Maibaum Project is more than just another feature of Frontier Park. It is a legacy project. It represents what Saint Charles can achieve when community groups, nonprofits, businesses, and residents unite around a shared vision.

When unveiled in 2026 during the 40th Anniversary of the Saint Charles Oktoberfest, the Maibaum will stand as a new cultural landmark and a reminder of our heritage, community, and civic pride for generations to come.
